How To Install A Water Heater

Determine whether you need to replace the old water heater, or some maintenance work will do. In case you are not getting hot water, it could just be a maintenance issue. So, you can call your local plumber to get them to check your water heater. If the plumbing company tells you to get a new one then, you need to install a water heater. If you want to install it yourself, then you need to check the building codes for ensuring compliance. If you are not comfortable, you need to call a professional.

Removing the old water heater

Step 1: you need to turn off the electricity at the circuit breaker. Now use the circuit tested for ensuring that the there is no power. Now, by using tape, mark the connections as well as the disconnections of wires.

Step 2: with the supply of water on, turn the faucet on hot and let the water run until it is cool. Then turn off the supply of cold water and connect a long garden hose to the drain valve from the bottom of the water heater.

Step 3: you need to open the valve of the drain and empty the water heater down the drain or into the buckets. Sometimes if you begin the of water faucet in the sink, then that will help you to empty the water heater tank.

Step 4: when you are sure that the tank is empty, using tools remove the discharge pipes from the T&P relief valve and then disconnect the lines of water supply. Get someone to remove the old water heater with a hand truck.

Installing the new water heater

Step 1: you start by placing the new water heater in the drain pan. You can keep away from flooding by routing the pipe to the drain from the pan. In case you new heater do not have T&P relief than twist the new valve. Now, install the discharge pipes toward the drain or floor. Then, attach the hoses with the help of a plumber’s tape.

Step 2: for reducing corrosion at some places, you need to put on dielectric fillings. Then apply plumber’s tape to the end of the connector body thread and secure the fitting to the hose. You need to slide the compression nut and then ring onto the pipes.

Step 3: for filling the tank remove aerator from the adjacent faucet and then open the hot side. Now, slowly open the water supply and check if there is any leakage. By using the masking tape connection as the guide, twist the wires together.

Step 4: now turn on the circuit and replace the junction box cover. Now, follow the instruction of the manufacturer for setting the water temperature to 120 degrees. If you have a dripping valve, then the pressure is high.
